Small Genre Groups – Info Session – April 3, 2019

Date: Wednesday; April 3, 2019
Place: Bayside Café at #5 – 2760 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay (upstairs)
Time: 2 – 4 p.m.

Members interested in joining a small writing group in the genre of their preference are encouraged to attend and learn how small writing groups operate. The roles of hosts and facilitators will be outlined. Members themselves will decide how often, when and where to meet as well as the type of feedback they wish employed from casual critiquing to a more structured format.

Suggested genres for small writing groups include:

  • Fiction
  • Science Fiction
  • Creative Non-Fiction
  • Historical Fiction
  • Writing for Children
  • Biography
  • Memoir
  • Poetry
  • Humour
  • Playwriting
  • Crime/Mystery

We currently have one Fiction and one Eclectic group that are not able to accept new participants at this time.

The Crime/Mystery Group generally meets the 4th Monday of the month at the Courtenay Library in the Events Room from 11 – 12:30 pm.  For more information contact: [email protected].

Guidelines for Peer Critiques/Reciprocal Reading are being formulated. In this model members read other members’ work or members exchange work and critique privately with each other. This was a function of our society at the regular monthly meetings when there were fewer membership numbers and more time for readings, feedback and discussion. Therefore, joining a specific genre writing group would ensure you receive reading time and valuable critiquing.

Do you know of a good place for a small group of writers to meet? Let the board know.
