November 21, 2019 – Dr. Mary Lindsay (Mei-Li-Lee)

The next monthly meeting of the Comox Valley Writers Society is on Thursday, November 21, 2019 in the library at Mark R. Isfeld Secondary School, 1551 Lerwick Rd, Courtenay. New members and guests are welcome.

Guest speaker this month is Dr. Mary Lindsay (Mei-Li-Lee). Dr. Lindsay, a former teacher and educational psychologist in S.D. #71.

She will also be reading from her historical novel Potlatch Blanket for a China Man on Wednesday, November 20 at 6:30 at the Courtenay Library. Unlike other accounts set in British Columbia, this novel privileges non-European perspectives and celebrates the complex alliances among Chinese, First Nations, Blacks, Hawaiians, Mexicans and women. Voice is given to marginalized communities that are not represented in history books. Everyone is welcome to either event.

At our October meeting we heard readings from our Crime/Mystery small writing group. Members read excerpts from their current writing projects. This group is very popular and may need to expand into a second group.

New members and guests are welcome. Meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Please wear a name tag! We want to get to know everyone!

Last call to renew your CVWS membership! Anyone who has not renewed by November 30th will not receive the CVWS newsletter or notifications of CVWS events. You can pay online at https://cvwriterssociety.ca/membership  or at the November meeting.
